This story is written by Mahnoor Usman, a student of class 7.
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Maria. She lived in America with her parents. Maria had no siblings and no friends. Her father was wealthy, but Maria didn’t like the luxurious life. Instead, she preferred a simple life. She didn’t want to show off to the people.
One day, Maria’s father was sitting in the lounge. She came and hugged her father and asked him if they could go to the village next weekend. Her father replied, “Why not, Maria? We must go”. Maria was so happy and started packing to go to the village. On the following weekend, they finally arrived at the village.
The next day, Maria saw a lonely girl sitting on the stairs of a house nearby. Apparently, she also had no friends like Maria. So, Maria went up to her and sat on the stairs by her side. The two girls introduced themselves. The lonely girl was Mehak, who lived in Maria’s neighbourhood.
When Maria returned home, she told her mom about Mehak and that she wanted to befriend her. Her mom said, “Why not, Maria! If she is a nice girl, you should definitely be friends with her.” This made Maria so happy.
Maria went to Mehak’s house the next day with a small gift. Mehak was pleasantly surprised to see her new friend. Both girls used to play together and spent a lot of time with one another. They had a doctors’ set, which was their favourite, and they used to treat their toys with it. While playing, they also decided to become doctors and build a hospital in their villages when they grew up, as there were no good medical facilities where they lived.
Months passed, and it was time for Maria to go back to the city. The friends were sad but bade farewell to each other and promised to meet one day. Surprisingly. After a few years, both, while having no news of the other, got graduated from a medical college. And then came the moment they had been waiting for. After 15 years, Maria visited the village, this time as a doctor. When she reached home, she hurried to Mehak’s house, which was, unfortunately, locked.
A passerby told her that Mehak’s family had also moved to the city a few years ago, but they might visit in a few days. Maria was again hopeful. She thanked the man and went back home. The next day, early, there was a knock at the door. Maria went to see who it was and saw her best friend Mehak standing right before her.
The two hugged each other with tears in their eyes. Both were super happy. Then they sat with their parents and decided to work on building a hospital in the village. Working hard day and night, they managed to fulfil their dream. They started helping the poor villagers, and the two friends spent their lives as doctors, together serving their people.
