The Climax - A Sequel to "Don't Go in the Basement..."

This story is written by Aisha Rafique, a student of class 5.

Jenna woke up in the closet feeling scared and cold. There was darkness everywhere. She couldn’t see anything. She tried to get up but felt like something was holding her back, so Jenna tried to scream for help. “Grandma? Bella?” she shouted.

Suddenly, she heard footsteps and saw Bella at the basement door. She said, “Jenna, I was so worried. I knew you would come here. Now come on, let’s go upstairs.” What Jenna didn’t realize was that Bella was still lying in the basement. On the other hand, Bella saw that Jenna was leaving with someone who looked exactly like her. She tried to reach Jenna or shout, but something held her back, and she couldn’t speak.

Jenna got upstairs. The two went to their bedroom and saw Grandma. Upon seeing the girls, Grandma exclaimed, “Where were you two?”

Bella said, “We were playing hide and seek.” Jenna, however, was quiet.

Grandma observed that Bella had a mark on her cheek, which was strange. She told them to wait for her and that she would be back in a few minutes. Bella and Jenna said ok and went outside.

Grandma, who was already half sure the two had been in the basement, checked it. And as she had feared, the door was open. “So they did go there”, sighed Grandma.

Walking down the stairs, she prayed that nothing had gone wrong, but as soon as she reached downstairs, she was shocked to see Bella on the floor because she had just left the girls upstairs in the living room. She sprayed some water on Bella, and the little girl woke up, crying into Grandma’s arms and telling her everything.

On the other side, Jenna and Bella were playing on the lawn when the former saw blood dripping from Bella’s mouth. She was startled. Bella smiled creepily, her facial skin cracking open. The shocked and scared Jenna took a few steps back, upon which Bella said, “Why are you stepping back? I’m your best friend. Remember?”

Jenna replied. “Whatever or whoever you are, you are absolutely not Bella.”

The creature developed a mortified expression at once. Its secret was out, and it couldn’t stay there any longer. It screamed in pain and said, “Ahhhh! You are right! I AM NOT BELLA.” Meanwhile, his skin came off, and it shrank and shrank to the point that it vanished into thin air, leaving nothing but ashes behind.
