Kind People Still Exist

This story is written by Aisha Rafique, a student of class 5.

Once there was a boy named Max. He couldn’t see because he got into an accident as a kid. A car crash caused him an eye injury, and the doctors at that time said they couldn’t treat him. After years of looking, when Max’s Mom finally found a doctor, Max wasn’t old enough, so the doctors told them they couldn’t do surgery on a kid.

When Max turned 20, the doctors said that he was and they couldn’t do the surgery on a kid. When Max was 20 years old, he could attend the surgery. Thus, he went to the hospital but was upset when the doctor told him the surgery would start after a few weeks of pre-surgery prep.

On his hospital bed, lying quietly, he said, “I wish I could see, but I’ll have to wait two weeks”.

A man near him said, “I can tell you what the world looks like from the window near me.”

“Really!? Pleeeease, tell me,” Max insisted.

The Man said, “There are clouds…”

“No, no,” Max interrupted him mid-sentence. “Don’t tell me the description. Tell me what your eyes feel. What if they could speak…”.

The Man laughed and said, “Okay, okay. I’ll tell, but remember, I don’t have much time left now; I’m very ill.”

The Man told him, “The world is filled with many beautiful things. There are all kinds of flowers here, but the sky looks like it’s crying. It seems pretty sad.”

Max was intrigued, “Will the flowers be alright?”

The Man replied, “Of course, they will be.” Then he sighed and said, “Okay, Max, I am a little tired now, so I’ll tell you more tomorrow.”

Every day, the Man would explain the view outside the window.

One day, the doctors told Max it was time for the surgery. Max said goodbye to the Man, and he’ll return in a while. After the successful surgery, Max’s bandages were opened, and two days passed.

He looked around inside his room but found no one else there. So, he asked the nurse about the man who used to tell him the weather. The nurse said he had passed away the day Max had surgery. Max was heartbroken. And then, he saw the wall behind him.

He said, “But why did you remove the window?”

The nurse replied, “There was no window here…”
