"Don't Go in the Basement..."

This story is written by Aisha Rafique, a student of class 5.

Jenna was 16 she was born in New York. She was an only child and lost her father when she was 10. She had a best friend named Bella. Jenna wanted to have a sleepover with Bella, but her mother said no. She was really upset, so her grandmother said that they could have a sleepover at her house.

Jenna got excited and called Bella to tell her the news. They decided to meet on Saturday. On Saturday, they met at Jenna’s grandmother’s house. Grandma showed them her daughter Anna’s room, which had a bunk bed. So, the girls decided to play rock paper scissors to determine who would get the top bed. Grandma smiled at that and left the room.

After they had decided to take turns getting the top bed, Bella started wondering who Anna was. But Jenna didn’t know much, so they decided to ask Grandma. Later at the dinner table, they asked Grandma about Anna. They were surprised that she had been Jenna’s aunt, her mom’s twin! Grandma told them that Anna had died while playing in the basement. She loved that place. And she never liked leaving the basement. Grandma said the last time she saw Anna, she had a strange mark on her cheek. Then, Grandma told them not to go to the basement.

Afterwards, she told the girls that she was going to bed, so they also went to their room. However, their minds were still stuck in the basement. At once, Jenna suggested to Bella, “Let’s go to the basement.” But Bell said, “No, silly, Grandma has prohibited us from going there.” Jenna still wanted to, but they went to bed while Jenna kept wondering about Anna. She tried to get rid of the thought but then had to creep out of her bed and go to the basement.

Slowly, she opened the basement door, and although she was scared, her curiosity was greater than her fear. Thus, she kept walking. It was so dark and quiet, and the only sound was that of the old stairs creaking. When she finally reached the basement, she turned on the lights, her hands shaking with fear. And even creepier, she felt like she wasn’t alone.

Out of nowhere, something hit her head, and she fell unconscious. The following day Jenna was acting very strange. Grandma noticed that Jenna had a mark on her cheek, similar to Anna’s. Grandma asked Jenna how she got that mark, and she lied that she had gotten hurt.

Grandma said to herself, “Anna had the same mark.”

Later that night, Jenna couldn’t find her phone. So, Bella called Jenna’s phone, and, to their amazement, someone picked it up. Bella said, “Hello…?” There was complete silence, and then, someone who had the same voice as Jenna said, “Come to the basement.” Bella dropped the phone, her hands shaking and face gone white with fear. Jenna immediately brought her a glass of water and asked her what had happened. When Bella told her, Jenna proposed that they should go to the basement. Bella didn’t want to go but couldn’t leave her friend alone, so she agreed.

When the girls went downstairs, Bella was intrigued and started looking around, realizing after some time that Jenna wasn’t there. Upon searching for her, she found her standing next to an old wooden closet with the creepiest cobwebs. Feeling a shiver run down her spine, Bella said, “Jenna, let’s go back. I don’t have a good feeling about this.” But it was too late. Jenna had already opened the closet, and there, they saw another Jenna lying inside. That’s when Bella noticed the mark Grandma was talking about and the voice on the phone… She screamed, “YOU ARE NOT JENNA!”. Anna replied, “Can you help me? I need a heart. Can I borrow yours?” (blood drips)
